Portage Woman Sentenced to 20 Years for Conspiracy in Gary Murder

A Portage woman, Angelia Nicole Cross (48), has been sentenced to 20 years in the Indiana Department of Correction after pleading guilty to conspiring to commit murder in connection with the April 30, 2024, killing of Kylin Stovall-Bursey in Gary, according to Lake Superior Court records.

Cross appeared in Lake Superior Court, Criminal Division 4, on December 4, 2025, where the court accepted her plea agreement. She was convicted of Count II: Conspiracy to Commit Murder, a Level 1 felony. Count I: Murder was dismissed under the plea deal. She received jail credit from October 11, 2024, to December 3, 2025, along with statutory good-time credit.

According to court documents, Cross met with multiple family members on April 30, 2025, to discuss a minor car accident she had with Bursey. She identified Bursey’s location to her husband, Billy Cross, who then confronted and shot Bursey multiple times, killing him. Angelia Cross drove her husband away from the scene, an act prosecutors deemed an overt act in furtherance of the conspiracy.

Security footage captured Cross, her husband, and another individual arriving together, shouting at Bursey. Cross was heard saying, “right there with the hat”, immediately before Billy Cross fired multiple rounds. Witness accounts and an autopsy confirmed Bursey died from at least six gunshot wounds, officially ruled a homicide.

Cross was remanded to the Department of Correction to begin her sentence. Court costs were waived.
