Emergency crews were initially dispatched around 11:40 a.m. on April 8 to extinguish a grass fire near Bagley Street and East Holland Avenue (M-46).
While responding to the scene, firefighters discovered Mallett’s body behind an abandoned building, prompting police involvement.
