A security guard was injured in a stabbing at Westfield Topanga Mall on Friday night, according to authorities.
Emergency crews with the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the victim to a nearby hospital. Officials said the guard’s condition was not immediately known.
Attack occurred during attempted theft
Investigators with the Los Angeles Police Department said the security guard was stabbed while trying to stop a suspected shoplifting incident.
Police believe the suspects were attempting to steal clothing from the shopping center when the confrontation occurred.
Suspects fled before police arrived
Authorities said two male suspects ran from the scene before officers reached the mall.
Investigators believe the injured guard is expected to survive.
The incident remains under investigation as police continue searching for the suspects.
