Stockton City Employee Involved in Crash That Killed One Pedestrian, Injured Another

A collision involving a Stockton city employee left one pedestrian dead and another injured Thursday night, according to officials.

The Stockton Police Department said officers were near the intersection of North El Dorado and East Acacia streets around 7:20 p.m. when they encountered the crash. Investigators determined that a vehicle struck two adult male pedestrians.

In a statement released late Thursday, Stockton Mayor Christina Fugazi confirmed the driver was a city employee and said officials are aware of the incident.

“The employee is cooperating fully with investigators,” the statement said. “Out of respect for the integrity of the process and the privacy of those involved, no further details will be released at this time.”

Both pedestrians were taken to a local hospital. One man is being treated for injuries, while the other later died as a result of his injuries. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased.

Police said the driver, an adult male, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Officers also confirmed that alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash.

Mayor Fugazi said the incident is still under active investigation and emphasized that the city will not speculate about the circumstances.

“The city recognizes the seriousness of this matter and extends its concerns to all individuals involved and their loved ones,” Fugazi said. “Updates will be provided, as appropriate, once additional verified information becomes available.”
