Street Racing in St. Albans Ends in Crashes and Arrests, Deputies Report

Deputies arrested two men late Saturday night after they reportedly took part in street racing in St. Albans.

Kanawha County deputies said they spotted two yellow Chevrolet Camaros around 11 p.m. Saturday along MacCorkle Avenue SW that “appeared to be engaged in street racing,” according to a news release.

When a deputy turned on emergency lights, the drivers — later identified as 22-year-old William Aiden Wallace of Hurricane and 20-year-old Caleb Dayle Robinett of Huntington — allegedly continued driving west.

Deputies said Wallace crashed just before Riverview Drive, and Robinett later crashed into a tree near Browns Creek Road.

While speaking with Wallace, deputies said they noticed a strong odor of alcohol and signs of impairment. Wallace admitted to drinking three “vodka Red Bulls,” and a breath test showed a blood alcohol concentration of .098%, the release stated.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court, deputies also found alcoholic beverages in the backseat of Wallace’s vehicle.

Robinett was taken into custody and charged with fleeing with reckless indifference and is being held on a $2,000 bond. Wallace faces a charge of fleeing while driving under the influence and is being held on a $2,500 bond.
