Suspect Charged in Fatal Shooting of Ex-Girlfriend at Florida Lab

A 29-year-old Florida man has been charged with capital murder following a deadly shooting at a Bradenton medical complex on Thursday afternoon. Police arrested the suspect, Keith Roberts, Jr., less than 30 minutes after the first reports of gunfire.

According to the Bradenton Police Department, Roberts entered a suite of offices in the 5200 block of 4th Ave. Cir. E. shortly before 1:00 p.m. Investigators say he specifically targeted his ex-girlfriend, 29-year-old Myshaela Burnham, and fatally shot her inside the lab processing facility.

Roberts allegedly then fired at a second person, an office employee who witnessed the killing. That woman survived and remains hospitalized. Her identity has not been released.

Bradenton police responded quickly after 911 callers reported the incident at 12:48 p.m. Officers tracked a vehicle fleeing the scene toward the Desoto Bridge. Coordinating with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office and the Palmetto Police Department, authorities intercepted the car in Palmetto at 1:12 p.m., about 24 minutes after the shooting was reported.

Following an interview with the Manatee Homicide Investigation Unit, Roberts was formally arrested just before 6 p.m. He faces charges of first-degree murder with a firearm and attempted first-degree murder with a firearm.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing, and further details have not yet been released.
