Teens accused of robbing Bay City store near police station

Two teenagers are facing charges after allegedly robbing a convenience store located just steps away from the Bay County Law Enforcement Center in Bay City.

Incident details

Police say the incident occurred around 6:45 p.m. on January 10 at Liberty Food Store on North Madison Avenue. A store clerk reported that two teens entered, went to the liquor aisle, and quickly grabbed ready-to-drink alcoholic beverages before running out.

When the clerk chased them, one of the teens allegedly made motions suggesting he had a gun and issued threats to shoot or harm the clerk.

Footprints lead police to suspects

According to reports, the clerk followed footprints in the snow to a nearby apartment building and alerted officers. When police arrived in the area, they spotted the teens, who attempted to flee.

After a brief chase involving alleys and fences, officers apprehended both suspects and recovered a backpack containing stolen alcoholic drinks.

One suspect, identified as 17-year-old Ethan M. Lago, has been charged as an adult with:

  • Armed robbery (a life offense)

  • Assaulting, resisting, or obstructing police

His younger accomplice, age 16, is facing charges through the juvenile system.
