Three Milwaukee men charged after high-speed I-94 stop leads to marijuana seizure

Shamaul Bonnie Pitts, 29, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Darius Demetrius Dunn, 24, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and Charles Lee Wallace, 25, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, are facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after a high-speed traffic stop on Interstate 94 in Porter County resulted in the seizure of a large amount of marijuana.

According to court documents, an Indiana State Police trooper was parked in the crossover on westbound I-94 near the 18.1 mile marker in Portage around 11:30 p.m. on January 2, 2026. The trooper observed a black 2024 GMC Terrain traveling westbound at a high rate of speed. LIDAR readings showed the vehicle moving at 96 miles per hour in a posted 70-mile-per-hour zone.

Court records state the trooper initiated a pursuit, but the vehicle continued at high speed and made an abrupt, unsignaled lane change at the I-90 split, which the trooper believed was an attempt to evade law enforcement. The trooper activated emergency lights and siren, but the vehicle did not immediately stop and continued toward the toll gate before eventually pulling over.

Pitts was identified as the driver, Wallace was seated in the front passenger seat, and Dunn was in the rear passenger seat. After Pitts rolled down the windows, the trooper reported smelling a strong odor of raw marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Additional troopers arrived to assist.

According to affidavits, as troopers tried to remove the occupants from the vehicle, Wallace climbed over the center console into the driver’s seat and attempted to flee. Officers shut off the vehicle and physically removed Wallace. Court records also state Dunn slammed a vehicle door on an officer as troopers worked to remove him from the rear seat. All three men were taken into custody at the scene.

A search of the vehicle uncovered a large gray duffel bag in the rear cargo area containing 25 individually packaged bags of marijuana. The marijuana was field tested and returned a positive result, with a reported total approximate gross weight of about 20 pounds.

Court records state all three men were advised of their constitutional rights and declined to make statements.

All three suspects are currently being held at the Porter County Jail.
