Warsaw man charged on confinement, battery charges

A Warsaw man was arrested after allegedly battering another man and preventing him from leaving a residence.

Arnol Joel-Ortiz Santamaria, 48, of 340 E. Levi Lee Road Lot 212, Warsaw, faces charges of criminal confinement, a Level 6 felony, and domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.

On Dec. 6, 2025, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a domestic complaint at a Warsaw residence.

According to court documents, a man told the deputy that an argument between him and Santamaria escalated into a physical confrontation. The man admitted he punched holes in the drywall out of frustration and then tried to leave the home to seek help.

The man said Santamaria physically restrained him to stop him from leaving and contacting police. He eventually broke free and went to a neighbor’s home for assistance.

The deputy observed visible injuries on the man’s face and body, including injuries to his forehead, cheekbones, lips, and hands. The man also had marks along his neck and jawline consistent with being grabbed. He told the deputy that Santamaria caused the injuries by grabbing and headbutting him. He also said he struck Santamaria once in self-defense during the struggle.

Santamaria told the deputy the man punched holes in the wall, prompting him to restrain the man to prevent further damage. The deputy noted injuries on Santamaria’s face, left bicep, and knuckles. Santamaria denied stopping the man from leaving the residence.

Santamaria was arrested and later released on bond. He is scheduled for an initial hearing at 1 p.m. Feb. 9 in Kosciusko Superior Court Two.
