Western Kentucky Jailer Charged with Inappropriate Relationship with Inmate

BALLARD COUNTY, KY — A deputy jailer at the  Ballard County Detention Center has been charged with engaging in an inappropriate sexual relationship with an inmate, according to the Kentucky State Police.

Investigators say the inquiry began after the inmate reported the alleged sexual contact with 60-year-old Robert Terry in February. Following the complaint, state police reviewed surveillance footage and conducted interviews that led to formal charges.

Terry faces charges of second-degree sexual abuse and first-degree official misconduct, both classified as class A misdemeanors. A conviction on either count could result in a maximum sentence of 12 months in jail.

The Kentucky State Police continue to investigate the allegations. Terry’s legal representatives have not publicly commented on the case.

Authorities emphasize the seriousness of maintaining professional boundaries in correctional facilities and encourage anyone with additional information to come forward.
