Woman Accused of Stealing Nearly $500 in Packages From Hialeah Porch Ahead of Christmas

A Hialeah woman has been arrested in connection with the theft of multiple packages taken from a residential porch just days before Christmas, police said.

According to an arrest report, Thalia Fernandez, 24, was taken into custody Thursday, several weeks after the reported theft occurred on Dec. 16 at a home on East 43rd Street.

Hialeah police said surveillance video captured Fernandez parking her vehicle in the driveway of the home during the afternoon hours. She was then seen opening the front gate, entering the porch area, and taking four packages that had been delivered to the residence.

Investigators said the stolen items were valued at nearly $500.

The homeowner told police he was in his backyard at the time of the theft and did not realize the packages were missing until his son returned home less than an hour later.

Police said a “need to identify” flyer was distributed internally, which ultimately led to Fernandez being located and arrested.

Fernandez is charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling. As of Friday morning, she remained in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with bond set at $5,000.
