A woman was arrested Tuesday after authorities say her infant child was fatally injured inside a Santa Monica apartment.
According to Santa Monica police, officers were notified shortly before 11:55 a.m. that UCLA Police had detained a woman on campus after she allegedly made statements indicating she had harmed her child and left the infant inside an apartment in the 2000 block of Broadway.
Officers responded to the apartment and found an infant suffering from significant injuries. Details regarding the child’s age, gender, and the nature of the injuries were not disclosed.
Paramedics from the Santa Monica Fire Department transported the infant to a hospital, where the child was pronounced dead.
The woman was arrested in connection with the child’s death and booked into the Santa Monica Jail. Authorities have not released her name.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death. Police said the incident appears to be isolated and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
