Woman Injured After Train Strike in Kanawha County

JEFFERSON, W.Va. — A woman was injured Sunday afternoon after being struck by a train at a railroad crossing in Kanawha County, authorities said.

The incident was reported just after 3 p.m. at the crossing on Avesta Drive near Kanawha Turnpike in Jefferson, according to a Metro 911 alert.

The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office said the woman suffered injuries to her arm and shoulder after a passing train clipped her.

Deputies said that after being struck, the woman ran into a nearby wooded area. She was later located by sheriff’s deputies working alongside officers from the South Charleston Police Department.

Authorities have not released additional details about her condition or the circumstances leading up to the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
