1 hurt, 1 taken into custody after stabbing and fire on West Side

One person is in custody and another is recovering in the hospital after a stabbing and fire at a home on the city’s West Side.

Police said the incident happened around 4:30 a.m. inside a residence in the 5800 block of West Division Street in the Austin neighborhood.

Officers said the victim, a 32-year-old man, was inside the home when a known offender, allegedly armed with a knife, approached and stabbed him several times.

The victim managed to get out of the home and was later taken to the hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

After the incident, police arrested a suspect at the scene. Charges are currently pending.

After assisting the victim and taking the suspect into custody, officers continued investigating and found damage inside the residence caused by a fire, though the cause remains unclear.

Police said the incident appears to be domestic-related, and no other injuries were reported.
