4 Dead, 13 Hurt In Chicago Thanksgiving Weekend Shootings

At least four people were killed and 13 others injured in shootings across Chicago during the Thanksgiving weekend. The victims ranged in age from 18 to 49, according to Chicago police.

Shootings from Wednesday

Officers responded to the first shooting of the weekend around 9:14 p.m. in the 0-100 block of South Cicero Avenue. Two women, 38 and 49, were outside when an SUV drove past and someone inside fired in their direction. Both were taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital.

The 49-year-old was hit in the face and chest and was in critical condition. The 38-year-old suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was also in critical condition.

Around 10:23 p.m., an 18-year-old man was standing outside in the 1500 block of South St. Louis Avenue when a blue vehicle drove past and someone fired multiple shots at him. He was hit in the left leg and taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition.

Shootings from Thursday (Thanksgiving)

  • At 2:20 a.m. in the 1200 block of West 111th Place, a 41-year-old man was shot in the chest during a domestic altercation with a woman. He was taken to Christ Hospital in critical condition and later died. A weapon was recovered at the scene.

  • At 7:19 p.m. in the 8100 block of South Maryland Avenue, a 42-year-old man self-transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the back. He told officers he was shot inside an apartment by a woman who fled the scene.

  • At 11:53 p.m. in the 5100 block of South Luna, an unresponsive man was found with gunshot wounds. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A witness said a man approached on foot, fired, and fled. Police recovered a weapon and are speaking to a person of interest.

No arrests were reported in these incidents.

Shootings from Friday

  • At 12:29 a.m. in the 1300 block of North Lamon, a fight led to a shooting. A 22-year-old man was shot in the right arm and taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition. A 29-year-old man was shot in the chest and remains in fair condition at Stroger Hospital. Police recovered a weapon.

  • At 1:20 p.m. in the 700 block of North Leamington Avenue, a 45-year-old man was shot in the left thigh by someone in a green truck. He was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

  • At 2:24 p.m. in the 7100 block of North Paulina Street, a 30-year-old man was found shot in the buttocks inside a home. He was taken to St. Francis Hospital in good condition.

Shootings from Saturday

  • At 3 a.m. in the 3300 block of West Washington Boulevard, a 24-year-old man was shot in the right leg while outside and self-transported to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

Shootings from Sunday

  • At 5:05 p.m. in the 4100 block of South Wabash Avenue, two men, 18 and 20, and a 20-year-old woman were inside a vehicle when three suspects approached and fired. The 18-year-old man was hit multiple times and died on scene. The other two were shot in the legs and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.

  • At 7:35 p.m. in the 800 block of South Oakley Boulevard, a 19-year-old man was shot in the chest by a known person and pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital. Police recovered a handgun and questioned two persons of interest.

  • At 8:31 p.m. in the 7600 block of South Stewart Avenue, a 67-year-old man was shot in the left thumb during an argument with a known person. He was taken to St. Bernard Hospital in good condition. The shooter fled before police arrived.

Last year, three people were killed and 19 were wounded in shootings during the Thanksgiving weekend.
