A woman shot by Philadelphia Police early Sunday morning has died, authorities said. She allegedly pointed a gun at officers.
Police responded just after 4 a.m. to reports of someone with a gun near North 10th Street and West Erie Avenue in Hunting Park.
Sgt. Eric Gripp said officers found a 35-year-old woman holding a gun to her head. She ignored commands to drop the weapon. Police deployed a Taser, but she ran across Erie Avenue and pointed the gun at the two responding officers.
The 25th District officers fired multiple shots, striking the woman. She dropped the gun and was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where she was later pronounced dead Sunday afternoon.
Gripp noted the gun recovered had an obliterated serial number and was loaded with one round in the chamber and 19 in the magazine.
The officers, ages 36 and 25, were placed on administrative duty. Both had their body-worn cameras activated during the incident.
No one else was injured.
