Man killed after being beaten and run over in Beverly Hills

Beverly Hills police arrested a man accused of killing someone during a verbal altercation Friday afternoon.

Officers said that around 12:42 p.m., San Bernardino resident Christopher Cornelius, 54, struck a man multiple times with a metal object before getting into his vehicle and running him over near the intersection of Wilshire and San Vicente Boulevards.

Witnesses told CBS LA that the victim tried to get up before Cornelius allegedly hit him with his car. They said the victim was dragged along the road until Cornelius stopped and ran into a nearby building.

Police quickly located Cornelius and took him into custody, according to the Beverly Hills Police Department.

Paramedics rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Cornelius has been booked on murder charges, with bail set at $2 million. Beverly Hills PD said he has an extensive criminal history, including violent offenses.
