Southern California Man Accused of Brutally Assaulting, Kidnapping Ex-Girlfriend

A Rancho Cucamonga man was arrested after allegedly kidnapping and attempting to kill his former romantic partner early Sunday morning, authorities said.

Ontario police responded to a call just before 3 a.m. from a motel in the 1200 block of North Grove Avenue after reports that a woman was screaming for help, according to a department press release.

By the time officers arrived, the woman was no longer at the location. Using a license-plate reader, police were able to track the vehicle connected to the incident to the area of Arrow Highway and San Bernardino Avenue in Upland.

There, officers located the woman, a 34-year-old Rancho Cucamonga resident, suffering from severe facial injuries and road abrasions.

Investigators identified her former romantic partner, 37-year-old Scott Thomas Brown, as the suspect.

“The victim attempted to escape but was caught, dragged back to the vehicle, physically assaulted, and threatened with a knife,” police said.

The woman was hospitalized with serious injuries. Brown, who is on probation for felony domestic violence, was arrested and booked into the West Valley Detention Center.

He faces multiple charges, including attempted murder, kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, mayhem, and domestic violence. Jail records also list charges of battery causing serious bodily injury and making criminal threats. He is being held without bail.

Brown is scheduled to appear in Rancho Superior Court on Wednesday.

Anyone with information related to the case is asked to contact Detective Ryan Ronveaux at 909-408-1748.
