Shafter Resident Identified as Victim in Fatal Motel 6 Stabbing

The Kern County Coroner has identified the man who was stabbed to death at a Motel 6 on Olive Tree Court as 49-year-old Jose Louis Ozuna Mancilla of Shafter. The incident occurred on Jan. 11, 2026.

According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, deputies are investigating the deadly stabbing that took place in northwest Bakersfield. Authorities said Mancilla was found around 6:50 a.m. at 5241 Olive Tree Court and later succumbed to his injuries.

Deputies responded to reports of a stabbing victim in the 5200 block of Olive Tree Court shortly before 7 a.m. When they arrived, they discovered Mancilla suffering from apparent stab wounds. Despite lifesaving efforts by medical and fire crews, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Later that night, deputies located the suspected attacker, identified as 46-year-old Paul Parra, near the intersection of Brundage Lane and Chester Avenue. Parra entered a not guilty plea on Jan. 13 and was denied bail.

Court records show that Parra is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 2, 2026.
