Man hurt after fight escalates into shooting on Southeast Side

Authorities are investigating after a dispute turned into a shooting overnight on the city’s Southeast Side.

Police said the incident happened just after 3 a.m. in the 8700 block of South Burley Avenue in South Chicago.

Officers said the shooting occurred after a 40-year-old man got into an argument with an unknown person in the area. During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly pulled out a gun and fired at the victim.

Police responded to the scene and found the man on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his left leg. He was taken to the hospital and is listed in fair condition.

Investigators said the cause of the argument remains unclear, and no arrests have been made.
