Prosecutors said a Kanawha County man convicted of DUI causing death and DUI causing bodily injury received the maximum sentence Monday.
Alva Jones, 46, of Charleston, was sentenced to three to 15 years in prison and ordered to pay a $4,000 fine following a deadly crash on Corridor G, according to a social media post from the Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
The sentence stems from a multi-vehicle crash in November 2024 along U.S. 119 North that was investigated by South Charleston police.
Investigators said a man identified as Donald Cantrell was killed, and a woman was injured in the crash.
Police determined Jones was driving on a suspended license while under the influence of amphetamines and methamphetamine.
Jones pleaded guilty to the DUI charges in late 2025.
