An 18-year-old man died Sunday night after a freight train struck him, Geneva police said.
Officers responded around 9:50 p.m. to the Western Avenue grade crossing following reports of a pedestrian hit by a train. When they arrived, they found the teen near the Union Pacific-West tracks east of Western Avenue.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary information indicates the train struck him on the northernmost track west of the Western Avenue crossing.
Police said they do not suspect foul play.
Authorities will withhold the victim’s name until they notify next of kin.
Multiple local agencies assisted Geneva police at the scene.
