Culver City police search for possible additional victims in sexual assault case

Police in Culver City are asking the public to come forward as they investigate a suspected sexual assault involving a 24-year-old man who was arrested earlier this week.

Authorities say Giovanni Leon, 24, was taken into custody Tuesday following an investigation that began after a reported battery on Sunday around 12:30 p.m.

According to police, a woman told officers she was walking through a rear alley along Washington Boulevard when Leon allegedly grabbed her from behind. Investigators say he wrapped his arms around her waist and lifted her off the ground. The victim managed to scream and kick until she broke free.

Police said the suspect then allegedly kissed the woman on the cheek before running west through the alley. The victim did not report any physical injuries.

Officers searched the area but were initially unable to locate the suspect. During the investigation, detectives later identified Leon and discovered he is a registered sex offender.

Police eventually spotted a man matching the suspect’s description Tuesday evening near Washington Boulevard and Louise Avenue. Officers detained him and later arrested him on suspicion of assault with intent to commit a sexual offense.

The Culver City Police Department said there have been no additional reports of similar incidents in the area so far, but investigators are working with nearby law enforcement agencies to determine whether other victims may exist.

Anyone with information related to the case is asked to contact police.
