Florida International University investigates racist group chat linked to GOP official

Florida International University has launched an investigation into a group chat connected to a local Republican Party official that allegedly contained racist, antisemitic and misogynistic comments.

According to reports, the chat was started by an official affiliated with the Miami-Dade Republican Party and included students as well as several conservative leaders on campus. The messages, which were reviewed and verified by the Miami Herald, reportedly contained violent racist slurs and other offensive language.

The university said campus police are investigating the matter in coordination with local, state and federal law enforcement.

In a statement, FIU President Jeanette Núñez said the university condemns the behavior.

“FIU does not and will not tolerate violence, hate, discrimination, harassment, racism or antisemitism,” Núñez said. “This is not who we are. This is not what FIU stands for.”

Students at the university have called for disciplinary action against those involved. One student said the participants should face consequences such as suspension or expulsion.

The Republican Party of Florida also condemned the messages and said it is conducting an internal review. The party described the remarks as “repugnant” and said they contradict its values.

The Republican Jewish Coalition also denounced the comments. Spokesman Sam Markstein said antisemitism and bigotry have no place in the Republican Party.
