A teenager in San Bernardino County was arrested last week after authorities say he assaulted a classmate with an airsoft gun.
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, deputies from the Yucaipa Police Station were contacted Friday evening by a social worker at Loma Linda University Medical Center. The social worker reported that a student had arrived with injuries from an assault that occurred earlier that day at school.
Investigators determined that the suspect allegedly struck the victim multiple times, causing significant injuries.
About an hour after the investigation began, deputies also received a report from a parent who had seen a photo posted on social media showing a student holding what appeared to be a firearm inside a school bathroom.
Authorities and school officials later identified the student in the image as the same suspect involved in the assault.
On Saturday, deputies executed a search warrant at the teen’s home and recovered the weapon shown in the photo, which they determined was an airsoft gun. The suspect was arrested and booked into juvenile hall on suspicion of battery causing serious bodily injury.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials are asking anyone with information to contact the Yucaipa Station.
