Florida Man Dies in Accidental Drowning After Leg Gets Entangled in Boat Rope

A 75-year-old man from DeBary died in a tragic accident over the weekend after becoming entangled in a rope while preparing for a boating trip with his son, authorities said.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a dock on Sher Lane just before 10:30 a.m. Saturday after a report of a body found in the water between two boats.

Investigators identified the victim as Jerry Capo. Officials said his left leg had become wrapped in a rope used to secure a boat to the dock, causing him to fall into the water.

Capo’s son later arrived at the scene and told deputies the two had planned to go boating that morning.

Authorities found no signs of foul play and ruled the incident an accidental drowning.

The case highlights the potential dangers around docks and boating equipment, even during routine preparations.
