Florida Man Arrested After Alleged Machete Attack on Boat

A 66-year-old man from Marathon has been arrested following a violent altercation aboard a vessel in the Florida Keys., according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say the suspect is facing felony charges after allegedly attacking another man with a machete and chasing him during the incident.

Argument Escalates Into Violent Confrontation

Investigators identified the suspect as Luis Ancieto Herrada, who was taken into custody on April 24. He has been charged with aggravated assault and battery.

According to deputies, the incident occurred around 10:42 p.m. when an argument broke out between Herrada and the victim, who had been staying on the boat.

Officials said Herrada allegedly became aggressive, swinging a machete at the victim during the confrontation.

Victim Chased and Struck Before Escaping

Authorities reported that Herrada chased the victim and struck him with an unidentified object. Despite the attack, the victim managed to escape the vessel.

No serious injuries were reported, officials confirmed.

Herrada was later arrested and booked into jail without further incident.

Separate Machete Incident Reported in the Florida Keys

In a separate case earlier this month, another machete-related incident led to an arrest in the region.

Deputies said 47-year-old Elijah Lee Tobridge, of Key West, was arrested on April 9 on Big Coppitt Key after reports of a man swinging a machete at objects.

He was charged with possession of a concealed weapon and improper exhibition of a deadly weapon. No injuries were reported in that incident.

Authorities Continue Monitoring Violent Incidents

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate both incidents, as officials emphasize public safety across the Florida Keys.
