A 42-year-old Brazilian man is facing charges after allegedly assaulting a Disney cast member during a meet-and-greet at Epcot earlier this month.
According to reports, Diego Rodriguez was arrested following an incident on April 21 involving a performer portraying Mirabel Madrigal from the animated film Encanto.
Authorities say the performer was interacting with guests when a child attempted to approach from behind for a hug. A staff assistant intervened, asking the child to wait their turn. Investigators allege that Rodriguez became agitated and grabbed the assistant’s arm, shaking her while demanding to know why his child could not immediately meet the character.
Witnesses reported hearing Rodriguez shout complaints about others being allowed to take photos while his child was made to wait.
Security personnel quickly intervened and escorted Rodriguez to a security office within the park. He was later arrested and charged with first-degree battery.
Rodriguez has pleaded not guilty and requested a jury trial. He was released on April 23 after posting a $2,000 bond.
In addition to the criminal charges, Disney officials have issued a lifetime ban preventing him from visiting any Disney-owned properties.
