Battle Creek man killed in two-vehicle crash in Barry County

BARRY COUNTY, Mich. – A 54-year-old man from Battle Creek died Thursday after losing control of his vehicle on a wet road and crashing into an oncoming car in Johnstown Township.

According to the Barry County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 12:37 p.m. on M-37 Highway near East Bristol Road. Authorities said the man was driving south in a Kia Soul when he lost control, crossed into the northbound lane, and collided with a Honda Civic traveling in the opposite direction.

A 64-year-old woman from Battle Creek, who was driving the Civic, was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said alcohol and drugs are not believed to have played a role in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Several agencies responded to assist at the scene, including local police, fire crews, EMS, dispatch, and the Michigan Department of Transportation.
