Couple Charged After Storage Unit Burglary

A couple is facing felony theft and burglary charges after allegedly breaking into a storage unit, stealing archery and outdoor equipment, and pawning the items the same day.

According to probable cause affidavits, the incident occurred at 41 U Lock in St. John. On December 1, the unit’s owner discovered that his personal lock had been replaced with a different one. Inside, he found several items missing, including a Bear bow valued at $600, an Emarth scope with tripod and case valued at $200, and a dirt bike helmet valued at $60. The stolen bow and scope were later recovered.

Investigators traced the theft using surveillance and police technology. Around 2:21 p.m. on December 1, Codey Jean Creech sold the Emarth scope to Pawn King on Broadway in Merrillville. Surveillance footage showed Codey arriving in a maroon 2010 GMC Yukon registered to her and her husband, Brian Anthony Creech, who stayed in the vehicle during the transaction. Codey presented her ID and left a fingerprint at the pawn shop.

Police later executed a search warrant on the Creeches’ vehicle, recovering the stolen Bear bow and two pairs of bolt cutters. During a recorded interview, Brian Anthony Creech waived his Miranda rights and admitted that he and Codey had broken into the storage unit and stolen the items.
