Crown Point Man Charged With Multiple Felony Drug Counts After I-65 Traffic Stop

A 36-year-old Crown Point man is facing several felony drug charges following an Indiana State Police investigation that began during a rollover crash response on Interstate 65 in northern Indiana.

According to court documents, troopers were responding around 11:11 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026, to a rollover crash on northbound I-65 near the 194 mile marker in White County amid icy, snow-covered road conditions. While en route with emergency lights activated, troopers observed a black SUV tailgating and passing marked police vehicles near the 190 mile marker.

The SUV was stopped near the 192 mile marker, and the driver was detained. Before being questioned, the driver allegedly told troopers he was on his way to meet his drug dealer at a gas station to buy half an ounce of cocaine. Court records state he claimed he could prove the deal through text messages and phone calls and said he was carrying $400 to $500 to complete the purchase.

Troopers were granted access to the driver’s phone, where messages showed coded language related to drug quantities and pricing. Investigators determined the meeting location was a Pilot Gas Station near the Remington exit. The driver reportedly explained that “seven” referred to seven grams of cocaine and that Xanax pills were also part of the expected transaction.

Troopers then went to the gas station and observed a gold Chevrolet Impala parked with its engine running. After the detained driver placed a call warning the suspected dealer that he had been stopped, the Impala immediately left the lot and headed eastbound on U.S. 231.

Court documents state troopers initiated an investigatory stop as the vehicle entered the northbound I-65 ramp. As emergency lights were activated, officers observed a plastic bag containing a white substance thrown from the front passenger-side window before the vehicle stopped.

During a high-risk stop, the driver exited the vehicle and a firearm fell from his lap onto the ground. He was taken into custody without incident and identified as Isaiah Allen Poindexter of Crown Point.

A K-9 unit later located the discarded plastic bag, which contained a tied-off baggie with a white powdery substance. Due to weather conditions, only a limited search of the vehicle was conducted at the scene. A firearm, suspected narcotics and a cellphone were seized, and the vehicle was towed for further processing.

Poindexter was transported to the Jasper County Jail. Court records state the white substance field-tested positive for cocaine and weighed approximately eight grams, including packaging. A search warrant executed the following evening led to the recovery of Xanax pills and an additional cellphone.

Poindexter remains lodged in the Jasper County Jail on multiple felony charges related to dealing and possession of controlled substances and obstruction of justice.
