Family Seeks Justice After Fort Lauderdale Grandfather Killed in Hit‑and‑Run

Loved ones are pleading for answers after 70-year-old Johnnie Lee Davis was struck and killed by a hit‑and‑run driver Monday evening.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on West Sunrise Boulevard at 4th Avenue, police said. Davis was reportedly crossing the street to reach a convenience store when a white pickup truck hit him and continued driving without stopping.

“He was my backbone… He kept me uplifted. He was my strength,” said Davis’s daughter, Jazzlynn Simmons, recalling the devastating loss following the recent death of her mother. Davis’s granddaughter, Jakayla Simmons, added, “We are not looking for revenge… We just want justice.”

Police are searching for the  white pickup truck involved, though the make and model remain unknown. Investigators do not have information on where the driver went after the crash.

Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Fort Lauderdale Police Department or Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493‑TIPS (8477).

The family continues to grieve, hoping someone will come forward to bring closure to this tragedy.
