Fog, Sun, Repeat: Tampa Bay Set For Warm Stretch Before Big Chill

Residents across the Tampa Bay area should keep a light jacket for the morning commute and sunglasses for the afternoon ride home. A pattern of foggy mornings followed by sunny, warm afternoons is settling in for the rest of the week, pushing temperatures well above seasonal averages before a major cool‑down arrives early next week.

For today, early risers encountered patchy fog that should burn off by late morning. Once the fog lifts, the sky will clear for plenty of sunshine, with highs climbing near 78 degrees. Winds will stay calm and shift gently from the west in the afternoon, making it a pleasant if slightly humid mid‑week break.

The warming trend really picks up starting Thursday. After another round of morning fog, thermometers are expected to reach 81 degrees. By Friday and Saturday, the region will enjoy a “false spring” with highs near 83 degrees under mostly sunny skies — perfect beach weather, as long as you wait for the morning gray to lift.

Nights will stay mild but misty. Patchy fog is likely to develop late each evening, especially after 10 p.m. or 1 a.m., and linger into the morning commute. Overnight lows will hover in the upper 50s to low 60s through Saturday.

However, the warmth won’t last forever. A shift is expected late Sunday. The day will start partly sunny with a high near 76, but a front moving through will sharply drop temperatures. By Sunday night, lows could plunge into the mid‑40s — a clear reminder that it’s still January.

Monday will struggle to reach around 66 degrees, and the cool air is expected to stick around into Tuesday with mostly cloudy skies and highs near 70.
