Gary Man Facing Felony Charges After Traffic Stop Leads To Discovery Of Modified Glock And Marijuana

Quaysean Jimmie-Ray Hall, 20, of Gary, is facing multiple felony charges after a Hobart Police traffic stop reportedly led to the discovery of a Glock handgun modified to fire as a machine gun and nearly 47 grams of marijuana inside his vehicle.

Police said an officer was on patrol on January 29, 2026, when he noticed a white SUV with an obscured temporary plate near 37th Avenue and Martin Luther Drive. The officer activated his emergency lights, but the vehicle continued for about two blocks before stopping at the intersection of 37th Avenue and Tennessee Street.

As the officer approached the driver’s side, he reported smelling a strong odor of raw marijuana. He also observed three baggies containing a green leafy substance in plain view beneath the radio console. During a search of the vehicle, officers found what was described as a “roach” in the ashtray.

Officers later discovered a Glock 19 handgun inside the center armrest, concealed in a partially sealed hidden compartment. The firearm had a metal switch attached to the rear. According to the affidavit, the officer recognized through training and experience that the switch converts the handgun from semi-automatic to fully automatic, “thus making it a machine gun.”

The recovered green leafy substance weighed a total of 46.91 grams and field-tested positive for marijuana.

Police reported that Hall later admitted, after being advised of his rights, that he “fucked up” and did not immediately stop because he had a gun with a switch. He told officers he hid the firearm in the center console before stopping in hopes it would not be found. Hall admitted the gun belonged to him and said he knew the switch made the weapon fire like a machine gun. He also stated that he sells different quantities of marijuana for friends and for himself.
