Police in Anaheim arrested a 59-year-old man accused of attempting to kidnap a mother and her teenage daughter and threatening to sexually assault them Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
According to the Anaheim Police Department, the victims — a woman and her 15-year-old daughter — were walking near Lincoln Avenue and East Street when the suspect, identified as Jose Gudino, allegedly jumped out from nearby bushes.
Investigators say Gudino attempted to pull the two victims off the sidewalk, but they managed to break free and quickly called police. The women provided officers with a detailed description of the suspect.
Police were able to locate Gudino within about two hours of the reported attack and took him into custody. He was booked on charges of kidnapping and attempted sexual assault.
Officials said the department’s Real Time Crime Center played a key role in the rapid response. The center allows officers to use tools such as surveillance cameras, drones and dispatch data to track suspects and monitor incidents.
Police said the quick coordination between patrol officers, detectives and the Real Time Crime Center helped remove a potentially dangerous suspect from the community.
