Miami police arrested 21-year-old Jimmy Jesus Cabrera after he allegedly attacked his pregnant girlfriend during a dispute and destroyed her phone as she tried to call for help, authorities said.
Officials responded early Wednesday morning to a residence in the 1200 block of West Avenue, Miami Beach, after a woman called from a neighbor’s phone following a domestic assault late Tuesday night.
The victim told police that she had been in a relationship with Cabrera for about eight months and that he was aware she was three months pregnant. During a verbal argument about her visiting her aunt’s home, the altercation allegedly turned physical.
According to the arrest warrant, Cabrera strangled the victim, causing her to lose consciousness, and hit and squeezed her stomach, reportedly saying, “You will not have this baby.” When she tried to call police, Cabrera allegedly destroyed her phone.
Officers arrested Cabrera at his home on Thursday evening. He reportedly fully confessed to the alleged assault.
Cabrera now faces multiple felony charges, including aggravated battery of a pregnant victim and domestic battery by strangulation.
