Michigan student accused of using AI to create fake nude images of classmates

Police in northern Michigan are investigating after a high school student allegedly used artificial intelligence to create explicit images of fellow students.

According to the Traverse City Police Department, the case involves students from Traverse City Central High School in Traverse City, Michigan.

Authorities say the student is accused of using AI technology to generate nude images of classmates, though investigators have not released details about how many students may have been affected or their ages.

Police said crimes involving minors are treated with the highest priority, but warned the investigation could take time because of the complex technology involved.

School officials said they took immediate action after learning about the allegations.

In a statement, Ben Berger, principal of Traverse City Central High School, said the school followed district safety procedures and contacted law enforcement as soon as the situation was discovered.

Berger said the school is cooperating fully with investigators, and families of students who may have been directly affected have already been notified.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the full scope of the incident.
