A Munster man wanted for a horrific Chicago homicide has been arrested in the south suburbs, according to the Chicago Police Department.
Police said 32-year-old Deparris Slaughter, of Munster, was taken into custody Saturday in the 13800 block of South Brainard Avenue in Burnham, Illinois. Investigators had been searching for him since identifying him as the suspect in a March homicide that stunned the North Lawndale community.
Slaughter now faces four felony charges:
-
First-degree murder
-
Residential arson
-
Dismembering a human body
-
Concealing a homicidal death
According to detectives, the case dates back to March 7, 2025, when a 68-year-old man was fatally shot inside his home in the 2300 block of South Kirkland Avenue on Chicago’s West Side. Police said the home was then set on fire.
After firefighters extinguished the blaze, authorities discovered the victim dismembered in the basement. Investigators quickly identified Slaughter as the suspected shooter, but he fled before officers could locate him.
Slaughter was processed over the weekend. A judge is expected to decide Monday whether he will remain in custody while awaiting trial.
