A Northern Colorado police officer has been arrested, facing misdemeanor official misconduct and felony attempted sexual exploitation of a child. The charges relate to the officer allegedly trying to obtain explicit images of a woman taken when she was under 18.
Fort Collins Police Officer Andrew James Cirone, 31, turned himself in to the Larimer County Jail on Wednesday and is being held without bond.
Fort Collins police said the department began an internal investigation in October 2025 after a woman reported that Cirone was attempting to get her adult daughter to send photos of herself from when she was a minor. During the investigation, Cirone was reassigned to a role that had no public contact.
The investigation revealed potential criminal behavior and multiple instances where Cirone allegedly violated department policies and state law. On December 30, 2025, he was placed on paid administrative leave.
His current employment status is unclear, and Fort Collins police confirmed he has been with the department since 2018, most recently in the downtown unit of District 1.
Police Chief Jeff Swoboda stated:
“As public servants, there are clear expectations for police conduct. While we cannot discuss specifics publicly, our community should know that we are committed to transparency, even regarding misconduct by our own employees. Accountability is essential to maintaining public trust, and we will cooperate fully with all appropriate reviews.”
Cirone is being represented by the Public Defender’s Office and is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday afternoon.
