Restaurant Theft Investigation Leads to Charges Against Former Employee

Alicia Marie Mogan, 43, of Hebron, faces charges after investigators reviewed security footage and message exchanges connected to repeated cash shortages at Corky’s Dog House in Cedar Lake, where she previously worked.

According to the probable cause affidavit, police responded to the restaurant on Wicker Avenue after management reported ongoing theft concerns. Throughout the summer, staff noticed the cash drawer came up short at the end of several workdays. After reviewing text messages from August through mid-September, management identified multiple dates when the cash drop was reportedly missing—sometimes up to $1,000.

The affidavit says internal security footage captured the employee taking money from the cash drawer and placing it into her right pocket, positioned away from the camera. Additional footage showed her unzipping the cash bag, walking to a wash area in the back of the restaurant, and placing money into a white bag. Video also allegedly showed her removing plastic bags containing cash from the cash bag and slipping them into her pockets.

Investigators say that when confronted with these findings, the employee initially denied wrongdoing. After management detailed what the footage revealed, she allegedly admitted to taking money. Police also reviewed a message exchange in which she reportedly responded to a question about the amount taken by writing “less than 1000 and not all summer,” followed by “please don’t put me in jail.”

Mogan was booked into the Lake County Jail on December 8, 2025.

Charges filed November 25, 2025:

  • Theft — Level 6 Felony

  • Theft — Class A Misdemeanor
