Suspect Captured Years After Fatal Tampa Apartment Shooting

Nearly four years after a deadly shooting at a Tampa apartment complex, authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder.

On January 13, 2026, deputies took 27-year-old Nekko Orta into custody for the 2022 killing of Bryce Green at the Verra North Apartments on Skipper Road.

The original shooting occurred on May 6, 2022, when deputies responded to reports of gunfire and found Green deceased at the scene. While charges were filed that year, an arrest was delayed as the case underwent an extensive legal review.

A Hillsborough County Grand Jury returned an indictment for First-Degree Murder against Orta on November 7, 2024, prompting a warrant. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office coordinated with the U.S. Marshals Service to track him down, leading to his capture in January 2026.

Sheriff Chad Chronister praised the detectives’ persistence:

“This arrest demonstrates our commitment to never giving up on victims and their families. Even four years later, our detectives remained relentless, using every investigative tool available and working closely with our law enforcement partners to pursue justice.”

Orta is now in custody as the case moves forward toward prosecution.
