Syracuse Man Arrested for Allegedly Battering, Threatening Two People

Joseph Daniel Martin, 39, of Syracuse, was arrested and charged with multiple offenses after allegedly threatening and battering two people.

Martin faces charges including:

  • Intimidation with a deadly weapon (Level 5 felony)

  • Battery resulting in moderate bodily injury (Level 6 felony)

  • Battery resulting in bodily injury (Class A misdemeanor)

According to court documents, the incidents began on June 27, 2024, when police responded to a battery complaint at a road intersection. A man with facial injuries told officers that Martin had assaulted him. A woman reported that Martin threatened both her and the man, brandishing a hammer and threatening to harm cats they were caring for. When the woman intervened, Martin allegedly punched her and then struck the man several times with a closed fist. The man was treated at Goshen General Hospital for his injuries.

On July 2, 2024, police located Martin at a residence in response to a noise complaint, where he claimed he was acting in self-defense.

Martin has prior convictions for domestic battery with serious bodily injury and battery. He was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on December 30, 2025.
