A trial date has been scheduled for a man accused of fatally shooting a woman at a gas station in Kanawha City in May 2025.
Jacob Fields, 19, is set to stand trial beginning April 20 in Kanawha County for the death of 42-year-old Tiffany Adkins. The shooting occurred at a Sheetz along MacCorkle Avenue.
Fields pleaded not guilty to a murder charge in October, and his attorneys have argued the shooting was accidental.
Investigators initially believed the incident may have been accidental. However, authorities later said surveillance video showed Fields pointing a firearm at Adkins as she walked past his vehicle moments before the gun discharged.
According to a criminal complaint, Fields allegedly waited for Adkins to enter his line of sight before raising a Glock Model 20 Gen 5 10mm pistol with both hands and pointing it in her direction. Police said video footage captured a muzzle flash and the vehicle’s windshield shattering. Adkins collapsed shortly afterward.
Fields has been held without bond after the charges were upgraded from wanton endangerment and involuntary manslaughter to murder.
