Authorities have charged Sean Ray James Hutchins, 37, of Valparaiso, with three felony counts of child molesting after investigators documented allegations involving a child at a Danvers Parkway home between 2021 and 2022.
According to the affidavit, a family member took a young child to the Valparaiso Police Department on September 30, 2022, reporting concerns about sexual contact occurring inside the residence. The child, who was between four and five years old during the alleged offenses, described inappropriate touching that investigators say happened during multiple incidents.
Police arranged a forensic interview and sent bedding and clothing for laboratory testing. The affidavit notes that a sexual-assault examination was completed and that evidence collected from a fleece blanket in the child’s bedroom later tested positive for seminal material.
Laboratory reports summarized in the affidavit state that analysts found a DNA mixture and determined the profile was at least one trillion times more likely to have come from the child and Hutchins than from the child and an unrelated person. Investigators later obtained a court-authorized DNA sample from Hutchins in April 2025, and an August 2025 lab report confirmed he was included as a contributor.
Court records indicate Hutchins was between 33 and 34 years old when the alleged conduct occurred.
