CHP: 10 Hurt After 59 Vehicles Involved in Highway 99 Crash Near Earlimart

A massive multi-vehicle crash involving 59 vehicles shut down portions of Highway 99 near Earlimart for several hours Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP said the incident affected both the northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 99. The initial report came in around 8:16 a.m. on Jan. 31, when authorities were told that about 15 vehicles were involved in a crash on northbound Highway 99 near Avenue 24.

Officials later confirmed that additional crashes occurred in the southbound lanes. CHP Visalia reported that a total of 59 vehicles were involved across both directions of the highway.

By 2:32 p.m., CHP said all lanes on both sides of the highway had reopened.

Authorities reported that 10 people suffered minor to moderate injuries. No fatalities were reported.

CHP said dense fog was a major contributing factor in the crashes, with visibility reduced to less than 200 feet.
