One person was killed early Tuesday morning in a multi-vehicle crash that caused major traffic disruptions on the Golden State (5) Freeway in Santa Clarita.
California Highway Patrol officers responded around 3 a.m. to the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 at Magic Mountain Parkway, where a box truck, a gold Toyota Camry and a semi-trailer were involved in a collision. The impact caused the box truck to overturn, blocking multiple lanes of traffic, CHP Officer Elizabeth Kravig told City News Service.
One individual was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s name, age and gender were not immediately released.
As investigators worked to determine the cause of the crash, a SigAlert was issued closing three northbound lanes at Magic Mountain Parkway. Traffic was backed up to Lyons Avenue during the morning commute.
All lanes were reopened and the SigAlert was lifted at approximately 10:30 a.m., according to the CHP.
