Operations have resumed at the Willow Island Locks and Dam on the Ohio River after ice buildup temporarily forced the lock out of service.
The shutdown, which began Jan. 28, caused more than a dozen barges to back up along the river. In a news release, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said the mechanical problems were linked to the lock’s bubbler system.
The release said eight vessels were locked through overnight, and as of noon Tuesday, six barges were still waiting in line.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said there are no other delays affecting lock operations elsewhere in the district.
