Two Charged in Armed Robbery Attempt That Ended in Northwest Side Shooting

Two men are facing felony charges after an attempted armed robbery led to a shooting early Tuesday on Chicago’s Northwest Side, police said.

According to investigators, 24-year-old Teryon Pittman and 23-year-old Roberts Cooks Jr. have each been charged with one felony count of armed robbery. The incident occurred around 2:40 a.m. in the 5200 block of West Montana Street in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood.

Police said the victim was getting out of his vehicle when the two suspects approached, with at least one armed, and demanded his belongings. The victim, who holds a concealed carry license, drew his firearm and shot at the suspects, striking one of them in the legs.

Officers responded to the scene and took both suspects into custody. The injured suspect was transported to a hospital and is reported to be in good condition.

Both men are scheduled to appear in court Thursday for detention hearings.
