A woman found dead at a homeless encampment in South Los Angeles has been identified by authorities.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner said the victim was 36-year-old Claudia Guerrero.
Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department discovered Guerrero’s body late Wednesday night in a makeshift encampment on 87th Street near Vermont Avenue after a man reported the death.
Investigators said Guerrero had injuries that may have been caused by dog bites. Several dogs were found at the scene while deputies were conducting their investigation.
Authorities said it is not yet clear whether the injuries caused Guerrero’s death or occurred after she died.
Animal control officers also responded to the scene as investigators worked to determine what happened.
The cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner. Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact the sheriff department’s Homicide Bureau.
